TEA & THOUGHT

In the previous Tea & Thought, we explored how Macedonia rose from a kingdom in the northern Greek world to a major power under Philip II and Alexander the Great.

Through Alexander’s conquests, Greek culture and influence spread far beyond Greece, reaching Egypt, Persia, and many other regions.

But what happens when different cultures meet?

In this session, we will continue the story of Macedonia and explore the Hellenistic Period.

How did Greek culture spread and change as it encountered different traditions?

What was preserved, what disappeared, and what new ideas emerged from this cultural exchange?

From war and art to language, knowledge, cities, and ideas, we will look at a period when the ancient world became more closely connected than ever before.

As we explore these encounters from more than 2,000 years ago, we may also find ourselves thinking about what it means for different cultures to meet in the world today.
